Pleurotus is the genus of mushrooms called oysters. The oysters are saprotrophic and also Nematophagous fungi, being able to kill and digest nematodes.
There are many different oyster mushrooms and the number is growing as mycologists seek to enhance their amazing qualities. The most common, Pleurotus ostreatus, is often called the Pearl Oyster. Other well known oyster mushroom type species include Blue, Pink, Golden, King and many more. They are often named based on their native location. such as the Florida, Indian, etc. New to the scene of oyster mushrooms are the King Blues. A hybrid cross of the Blue Oyster beautiful blues, and the King Oyster mushroom’s large, thick, meaty stems.
